Thoughts on Selling Art

When you buy something from an artist you are buying more than an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of errors and experimentation. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not buying just one thing, you are buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a piece of someone else’s life."

I stumbled across the above quote some time ago and it hit home for me. The feelings of creating and sharing your work with the world are difficult to describe but the quote summed it up so brilliantly.

One of the things I currently find the hardest to do is to create for other people, to anticipate someone's likes and dislikes and have myself and my work validated by it. My process of creating art is obviously a personal one. In this journey, it is essential to detach myself from what others think and even what I think (because sometimes you are your biggest critic).

I create for the process of creating, because something tells me I should. I create for the joys of getting to make something out of nothing. And everything else comes next.
